Mountains,tunnels,sunshine and snow

Bergen Northeimsund,Jondal Utne 74 miles today was all about hill climbing not for you mr k not that you couldnt it would just give you the willies. So lots of climbing from sea level to about 800 metres through tunnelsin mountains that when your cycling through the echo you get from the cars sounds like theirs a jet engine behind you very scarry some of the tunnels are short others are about 20 min long. Its been hot today and the coolness of the tunnels give you a welcome break from it and if that doesnt do it then the snow at the top of the hills will at the top your within 50 metres of it.truly staggering scenery its sctland highlands x 10 i love it here. Today i drank at least 4 bottles of water and filled my water bottles from the waterfalls tastes amazing and for free, no stomach problems so it must be ok. No hot food today the gas cannister and connector dont match so on my shopping list today with sun cream and insect repellent, midges were bad last night which was my first night of camping it rough next to a fjord tomorrow i catch a ferry acroos to kinsovic which is the start of the big big hills ive been told that the rivers are still frozen up there not sure how far ill get i was planning Goll but ive been told its to hilly and i might get stuck out in the middle of no where.

  1. Amazing effort there Penny. You are definitely KOTMs. 74 miles up there sounds a more than solid start. If it's climbing like Hartside/Winlatter all day, then no I wouldn't like it! Remember what happened to Van Damme when he got stuck up a mountain in that lager ad? Better get that phone working, we want to see snaps of fjords, cakes and local wildlife.

  2. Shame that gas stove was not working, bet you really missed that opportunity to have a bean feast dinner. Hope the bike is OK and that the bears and wild dogs are being kept at bay.

  3. Sounds really amazing James.
Norway is a truly beautiful place, it's been 38 years since I was there but I don't think the fjords change that much. Hope the giant mozzies are not biting too hard (saw one rip the entire back leg off a sheep once, but I think that was further north from where your are) You're not going NORTH are you ? Have a great time and I'll check in to the blog to see how you are doing. 20 min long tunnel WHOOOO. that makes the ones in Majorca seem rather short. seen any YETI's yet. send me a photo if you do. Will sends his regards and a couple of overlong hugs.

  4. Dear Mr Lion
If it gets a little too much travelling with James Penny, I'll forward a pre-paid air mail rescue box for your first escape attempt. Use morse code if you can't talk.

Glad to hear your not banged up in a Norwegian prison with Mr Lion, some dodgy Welsh cakes and a bunch of thigh slapping, vodka swilling scandinavians - trust me they know how to party!! Sounds like your having THE adventure planned, just remember your bear & moose drill - big, loud and picnic this way -> Your ever loving sis xx
